Getting to Swakopmund

By Road

The road is the only way to actually get to Swakopmund, whether you self drive or take a bus. From Windhoek (where most international flights to Namibia arrive at) you take the B2 highway. This road is paved and in good condition, and the trip should take approximately four and a half hours. If you are coming from South Africa, you will have to take the B1 Highway to Windhoek, and then grab the B2 from there. Car rentals can be booked at this link. Bus service is also available once a day. Visit this link for more details.

By Air

Swakopmund doesn't have its own airport; the closest one is at Walvis Bay, a half hour away. Air Namibia used to offer flights to this airport, until it's bankrupcy in 2021. Currently Walvis Bay is serviced by Airlink and Midwest Airlines, with flights from a variety of destinations, including Capetown, Windhoek, Johannesburg and Saint Helena. Shuttle buses run between Walvis Bay to Swakopmund on a regular basis.
